Honouring Loved Ones on Your Wedding Day

September 7, 2025

When my dad passed away suddenly in 2022, it changed the way I thought about what it means to celebrate such a big milestone without someone so important by my side.

It can feel bittersweet... planning a day full of love and joy, while holding space for the people we wish could be there. What I’ve realised is that there are so many ways, big and small, to honour them and keep their memory close.

Some ideas are simple but powerful:

  • Reserving a seat for them at your ceremony

  • Placing your bouquet on a reserved chair at the end of the aisle

  • Pinning their photo to your bouquet

  • Including their favourite flower, or even their favourite colour, in your florals

  • Mentioning them in a toast or speech

  • Dedicating a song to them

  • Serving a favourite drink or dessert they loved

I’ll never forget a moment from a wedding I had the honour to be part of. The bride wanted to carry her late mum with her down the aisle, so we secured a beautiful charm with her photo onto her bouquet. It was such a quiet, meaningful gesture - one that made her bouquet even more personal and special.

Another couple chose to honour the groom’s late mum in different ways - her handwriting was lovingly turned into a font and used for their menus and seating chart, and they served her signature cheesecake for dessert. It was thoughtful, personal, and such a beautiful way that to include her in their celebration.

There’s no “right way” to do this. What matters is that it feels right for you. Whether it’s through flowers, food, words, or small details woven into the day, these gestures can bring so much comfort and connection.

If you’re looking for ways to honour a loved one through your flowers or styling, I’d love to help you find something that feels personal and true to your story.

Big love, Jaicelyn x
